Panasonic prices their camcorders for the masses

by Shipra

Panasonic knows that the right price ought to be enough to entice even the most hardened consumer, and they decided to do something about it by announcing the different prices for their new range of full High Definition mobile cameras and camcorders, where the latter comprise of the HM-TA20 and HM-TA2, with the HX-WA10, the HX-DC10 and the HX-DC1 making up the former.

All of these five new models will arrive at the US market from early next month onwards, at price points that ought to keep most people happy – the HMT-TA20 will cost $199.99 while the HM-TA2 goes for $169.99. Other prices include $349.99 for the HX-WA10; $279.99 for the HX-DC10; and $199.99 for the HX-DC1. With that in mind, you can see that not one of them cost more than $350, letting it fall under the magical $500 impulse purchase limit for most folks.

First of all, a quick refresher course on just what these devices are capable of – the HM-TA20 is a full-HD mobile camera, where it will come with a rugged design which will be able to help you live the active lifestyle, including watersports (but not scuba diving, of course). Waterproof to approximately 10 feet, it is also shockproof if you decide not to let it fall for more than 5 feet, while being dustproof with the Night View Mode helps you shoot exceptional video and photos, even in low-light conditions.

With a tiny form factor that is compact to tote around anywhere, working with a tough exterior, this is the ultimate video camera when you take portability into consideration. Other hardware features include a relatively large, 3″ Touch LCD display, full HD recording capability in MPEG-4 AVC file format (MP4), built-in software that requires no CD to install and a webcam function when connected to your computer.

As for the Panasonic HM-TA2, this is also a compact and mobile camera that has all the same features as that of the HM-TA20, although it isn’t waterproof, dustproof and shockproof, so you would do well to be a whole lot more careful when carrying this around.

Sony Announces World’s Smallest and Lightest Interchangeable-Lens Camera

by Shipra

As far as we know, there weren’t many people out there complaining that the existing Sony NEX interchangeable-lens compacts were too big, but Sony went and made the NEX-C3 smaller anyway. The NEX-C3, pictured above, slims down the already teeny NEX-5 (which we reviewed here) to become the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable-lens camera. Then there’s the A35, a full-sized DSLR that usurps lots of the features and hardware of the A55, the recipient of PopPhoto’s coveted Camera of the Year Award last year–only at an entry-level price. Nikon unveils world’s first projection camera

by Shipra

The S1000pj will project images onto any available flat surface and allows you to choose how large, or small, you want the image to appear – the minimum size being 5in and the maximum projection being 40in.

Nikon will also throw in a remote control with the S1000pj, so you won’t have to pick up the camera each time you change images. A projection stand will also be included, the firm promised.

In terms of photographic features, the S1000pj is a 12.1Mp compact with a top ISO sensitivity of 6400 – fairly decent for a compact camera – and wide-angle 5x zoom. The camera also features a 2.7in display and all images are stored onto SD memory cards, Nikon said.

Several pre-set shooting modes are included, as are options for reducing the impact of image blurring and ways to “ensure you get those ‘red carpet smiles’ every time” – which sounds like smile and facial detection, to us.

The camera also comes with free access to Nikon’s Picturetown – an online digital photo storage and sharing service where the firm will put aside 2GB of online storage capacity for every S1000pj buyer.

Nikon’s S1000pj will be available to buy in the UK next month, priced at £400/€485 ($678).®

The Hero 3 Waterproof Digital Wrist Camera is an amazing little camera that can go with you anywhere and stands up to the elements including water and a little falling or bumping into rocks. • 46 megapixel 24×16mm APS-C sensor
  • Lightweight yet solid magnesium alloy body
  • Weather-resistant O-ring sealing connections
  • Dual ‘TRUE II’ image processing engines
  • 11 Point Twin Cross AF Sensor

The SIGMA SD1 incorporates a 24×16mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor and dual “TRUE (Three-layer Responsive Ultimate Engine) II” image processing engines.

The SD1 is SIGMA’s latest digital SLR camera which meets high requirements of professional and enthusiast photographers for all types of photography.

Product Summary

46 megapixel 24×16mm APS-C X3 Full-colour image sensor
The 46 megapixel (4,800×3,200×3 layers) 24×16mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor featured in the Sigma SD1 captures all primary RGB colours at each and every pixel location, ensuring the capture of full and complete colour.
Using three silicon-embedded layers of photo detectors, stacked vertically to take advantage of silicon’s ability to absorb red, green and blue light at different respective depths, it efficiently reproduces colour more accurately, and offers sharper resolution, pixel for pixel, than any conventional image sensor.
Since colour moiré is not generated, the use of a low-pass filter is not required, meaning light and colour, generated by the 46 megapixel APS-C X3 direct image sensor, is captured with a three-dimensional feel.

Dual TRUE II image processing engine

The SD1 incorporates a dual “TRUE (Three-layer Responsive Ultimate Engine) II” image processing engine which improves the processing speed and overall quality of the final image. The unique image-processing algorithm provides high resolution power and reproduces high definition images with richly graduated tones.

CF card

The SD1 adopts the TYPE I CF Card. This camera is compatible with UDMA Mode6, enabling fast processing of large amounts of data.
* It is not possible to use Microdrives and TYPE II CF cards.

11 point twin cross sensor

The autofocus system features an 11 point twin cross sensor. The shifted twin cross type sensor improves AF accuracy.

Magnesium body

The Sigma SD1 adopts a lightweight yet solid magnesium alloy body designed to withstand rough use and shocks in harsh conditions.

Weather-resistant design

Buttons and connections benefit from O-ring sealings to prevent dust and water getting inside the camera body.

Large, highly visible 3.0” TFT colour LCD Monitor

The SD1 camera features a 3.0 inch TFT colour monitor. This 460,000 pixel resolution LCD monitor benefits from a wide viewing angle, making it easy to check focusing and composition.

Optional lenses

The SD1 can be used with over 40 Sigma lenses such as ultra-wide, ultra-telephoto, macro and fisheyes which adopt the latest technology such as FLD and SLD glass, Aspherical lenses, Sigma’s unique Optical Stabiliser function, Hyper Sonic Motor and Sigma’s Super Multi Layer Coating. Excited? Well yes you should be, but before rushing to the nearest travel agency to book your flight to Japan to grab one of these, we have to warm you that this SD1 won’t be cheap! Indeed Sigma is asking around 700,000 Yen (3.5x time the price of a Canon 5D MK II in Japan) or $9,700 in the USA for such monstrous sensor and Camera!
